The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced stricter guidelines for players and officials ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2025. Additionally, the BCCI has imposed restrictions on fitness tests on the main pitch before matches. Earlier, team physios could assess a player fitness on the match pitch just before the game. This practice has now been discontinued. Furthermore, players must wear the orange and purple caps for at least two overs during games and at post-match presentations.

The board has also enforced a new rule prohibiting sleeveless jerseys during post-match presentations. To ensure clarity and compliance with these regulations, the BCCI has scheduled an in-person meeting with all team captains on March 20 at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai.

New Practice Rules for IPL 2025

Each team will be allocated two nets in the practice area and one side wicket on the main square for range hitting. However, in Mumbai, if both teams are practicing simultaneously, they will be given two wickets each. Open nets will not be allowed, meaning all practice sessions must be conducted in designated areas.

If a team completes its practice session early, the other team cannot use the available wickets for additional practice. To preserve the pitch quality, no practice will be permitted on match days, ensuring the ground remains in prime condition. Fitness tests on the main square will only be allowed on match days with prior approval.

On both pre-tournament and tournament practice days, only accredited staff will be permitted to enter the dressing room and the field. Family members and friends of players must use separate vehicles and can only watch practice sessions from the hospitality area.

Any additional support staff, such as throwdown specialists or net bowlers, must obtain BCCI approval before being granted access on non-match days. Players must travel to practice sessions on the team bus, but they can do so in two separate batches if needed. Any practice-related concerns, including fitness test approvals on match days, must be coordinated with the venue manager.

Match Day Guidelines for IPL 2025

All Player and Match Officials Areas (PMOA)-accredited staff must carry their accreditation at all times on match days. A first-time failure to present accreditation will result in a warning, while a second-time failure will lead to a fine for the team.

Players are required to wear orange and purple caps for at least the first two overs of the game for TV broadcast purposes. Floppy hats and sleeveless jerseys are not allowed during the post-match presentation. The first violation of this rule will result in a warning, while a second violation will lead to a financial penalty.

Only 12 accredited support staff, including the team doctor, will be allowed on match days. Teams have been urged to adhere to the guidelines to prevent damage to equipment, such as LED boards. Players and support staff are specifically instructed not to sit in front of the LED boards. Designated seating areas across the field of play will be marked for substitutes carrying towels and water bottles.

Additionally, if a player jersey number is changing, teams must notify the BCCI at least 24 hours in advance, as per the clothing and equipment guidelines.
